An Economically Competitive Alternative to Native Peat in Potting Soil Mixes

An alternative to native peat in potting soil media, coined cowpeat, has been developed at a dairy and tested in nursery trials by the University of Florida.

|
To create Cowpeat, solids from dairy wastewater were screened and processed in a large horizontal drum composer at temperatures up to 150 F. Oxygen levels and temperatures are monitored to provide optimum conditions for the microorganisms to decompose cow manure. This process kills nematodes and inactivates weed seeds.

Before being called Cowpeat every batch must pass testing for quality and proper curing. Our promise is to deliver a consistent product.

|

The processed material was screened and ready for blending into a traditional soil mix. Cowpeat can be blended in multiple mix combinations at our on-site bending facility to satisfy our customer's requirements.
