| 5b) A blower at the discharge end of the drum is pumping air into the drum. Since we depend on millions of aerobic bacteria to digest the manure we provide them with additional atmospheric oxygen. The drum is fitted with passage ways so that the air is evenly distributed throughout the drum. These armies of bacteria are working on a diet of manure and air. The process raises the temperature to 150 F. |

| 5c) Stainless steel doors are hand operated once each day. One third of the batch is discharged each day. Discharge time is about thirty minutes. The drum is outfitted with interior baffles that allow the drum to be emptied and filled each day. Since this is a three day cycle, one third is emptied each day and one third is filled. The digester has a design capacity of 2 cubic yards per linear foot. Since this is a 10' X 60' drum the design capacity is 120 cubic yards per three day cycle. Actual measurement of the discharge material is about 39 cubic yards per day.
